Coronavirus Peru: measures, protocols and when will Cusco Machu Picchu reopen?
The government is preparing to reopen Machu Picchu to tourism, with new protocols that include safety and health measures.
One of the most eagerly awaited news for national tourism has arrived. Machu Picchu will reopen to tourism in the coming days, after more than half a year closed due to the incidence of the coronavirus pandemic.
This was stated by the regional governor of Cusco, who reported an opening that, in the first days, will be exclusively for the citizens of the province, as established in the schedule for the reopening of the Inca citadel. A measure that serves to reopen little by little the tourist activity, as it happened with the international flights, which have been operating since the beginning of the month.
The opening, for 17 October
The opening day is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 17 October. This will be gradual and progressive, as it will be from November onwards that the rest of the national and international visitors will begin to arrive, with a date yet to be determined.
It will have a maximum initial capacity of 675 people per day, which represents 30% of the total authorised, in groups of eight people and who must be accompanied by a guide.
